History Token Imagination is a part of an extended network of Sydney independent artists. We are a branch of the family tree planted by an inspiring community, primarily The Frequency Lab and Knot Gallery. The physical space no longer resides at 107/342 Elizabeth St, but the collective continue to produce amazing work, and we look forward what will flourish in a new space.
Always
eager to be inspired by the opportunities and limitations of new
physical space, Token Imagination has taken the flagship of Token into
all the nooks and crannies of Sydney’s inner city and beyond. From The
Frequency Lab/Knot Gallery, The Kirk, 505, Lan Franchis and The Last
Bastion of Civilization to festival appearances at Underbelly Festival
('07), Peat’s Ridge Sustainable Arts and Music Festival (‘05, ‘06,
’07), The Great Escape Festival (’06, ’07), Chalk The Walk Festival
(’07), The Australian Poetry Festival (06), TINA Festival (‘06),
Cockatoo Island Festival (‘05), Cracker Comedy Festival ('05) and The
Sydney Festival (’05). Our ability to be flexible with space, numbers
of people involved, format and concept, means that we are able to
occupy a variety of sites and and contribute to a variety of
umbrella’ed events.
Token Imagination began as Token
Word, a monthly spoken word event that steadily spread its
wings since its conception in June 2003. Over the years our
events have grown in size, attendance, format and concept to become
multi-arts extravaganzas with the natural evolution of our core members
becoming a creative production team.
Our Core
Members work in a variety of mediums, contributing both creative,
production and technical skills. Each artist covering multiple roles
from sound engineering, communications, documentation and hosting to
promotion and performance. They are all prolific practicing artists
excited by the possibilities of collaboration.
They
include: Jess Cooknkitch (The Frequency Lab), Jamie Gerlach (Jamie Boy
lady), Alasdair Nicol (Knot Gallery, Tendril Productions), Tom Keily
(Citizen Tom, Thomas Jack of hearts), Di Smith (Pact Theatre, Brown
Council), Kali Reid, Skye Wagner (Peek-a-Booth), Iain Buchan

We are always in creative
dialogue with a plethora of local and international artists... and so
our tribe is always in fluctuation and we thank all our contributors
with sincere appreciation!
